In December last year we had the honour of sharing Tim’s story with Cook Medical Australia to a packed auditorium in Brisbane. It was the first time they had a conference since covid restrictions in 2020 and it was a bit scary to be their first speakers for their return. No pressure!! There was a lot of enthusiasm in the room to be reconnecting in person and it was a wonderful audience that stood up for Tim, they liked him a lot. After the conference they invited us to their premises to see their work. Their speciality is making stents for heart patients. It was one of the most amazing experiences we have had.
It is easy to forget sometimes how fortunate we are with the medical services we have here, but once you find out what others are doing for the good of life and to keep you living, you can never forget or stop being grateful.
Now, Cook Medical Australia’s walls are filled with Laser Beak Man art including this original. Its specific for Cook Medical so I will explain what I know, the bits Tim told me. He doesn’t tell me everything. What son does?
The theme is Kiss the Cook, the bottom line includes some of the worlds most famous kisses including one of Tim’s favourite bands. Tim saw the stents as looking like people marching, so appropriate for the work they do to keep hearts beating, so he has drawn the stents as a marching band, “The beat goes on”. You can see the stents below. In the middle is the tree of life, with red and blue veins and the symbol of life in the middle. At the base of the tree is kissing Kangaroos cooking a bbq and sealing a kiss, because it is Cook Medical “Australia” and they are an international company. At the top of the trees a couple of “Cookaburras” because they have a “Cookaburra café at their workplace. The borders on the outside of the artwork represent the thread they sew.
In the top line is the technicians who sew with great technique, skill and care to give others a chance of life. Some of these good people have been working there for thirty years.
We couldn’t be prouder for Tim’s art being there and the connection we have made with these geniuses, incredibly good people. We have so much to be grateful for in this life and in this country Australia, especially that we have these medical services.
This is one of our best experiences ever.
