A rainy grey day in Wynnum, Brisbane but lots of sunshine inside, with over 100 kids standing if they could, to sing the national anthem with gusto and chant Aussie Aussie Aussie and give three huge cheers, at the official packed opening of the Darling Point Special School new buildings this morning . State of the art, purpose planned and built from beginning to competition with the leadership of principal Charmaine Driver, Tims very first teacher 35 years ago. A 50 year teaching career, dedicated to special education and children with disabilities. No sooner was the opening ceremony finished then without a minutes break Charmaine was chairing a meeting I had the honour of attending with others, planning how to support children at first diagnosis to entering school onto leaving school and adulthood. The woman is a human dynamo, a passionate tireless leader overflowing with ideas; who never stops finding ways to make what seems impossible possible. She took no moments to revel in her achievements, instead she turned to do more for others. The older i get the more I see this as the secret to a fulfilling life, by thinking less of yourself and more about others
Tim is always thrilled to see her, always has been.
Notice the sign on the wall in the photo with Charmaine “DREAM” there is no dream too big that cant come true with love.
Not all the photos are clear it was busy. Also in attendance education minister John- Paul Langbroek, along with true supporters Joan Pease MP our friend Andrew Queensland Association of Special Education Leaders Brendan from @Queensland Teachers Union and Adam principal Iona college and many long time devotees of the school and importantly teachers who worked at the school from the 1970s. Now in their 90s they continue to see dreams come true. You are never too old or too young to dream. Believe.
